Film directors leave their position behind the camera and move into the focus of the time-slit camera as protagonists in motion – people who produce media time sequences themselves are thus captured photographically in that very same way. Their representation reveals aspects of their cinematic work as well as facets of their personality. In the case of Michael Klier, his passion for Bacon’s painting is incorporated into both content and aesthetics of the image, as it is in the case of Almanya director Yasemin Şamdereli’s family-historical background or Andreas Dresen’s filmic approach to the “comédie humaine”.
In addition to the three already mentioned, this cycle by the artist couple KOSCHIES includes photographs of the following film directors: Jürgen Böttcher aka Strawalde, Dennis Gansel, Andreas Kannengießer, Dani Levy, Franziska Meletzky, Christian Petzold, Pola Schirin Beck, Volker Schlöndorff, Hannes Stöhr, Christian Schwochow and Robert Thalheim. The RUNNING DIRECTION series presents their time runs.
